Best Computer Movies?

Question by clomtancy: Best computer movies?
Every once ina while they come out with a movie that is about computers. Sometimes the computer comes alive.

List any good ones.

1. Electric Dreams: 1980′s movie about a guy who decides he needs a computer and he has a hot new neighbor. but the computer he buys grows a personality and a life and wants the woman too. (just got it downloaded been waiting 10 years to see this again). The funny thing is that the guy who played the main role sure didnt age much. He would play a guy around the same age in 97 in “Home Alone 3″ as one of the vilians.

2. Wargames… who can forget those famous words… “Shall we play a game?” about the kid who nearly starts world war 3 when he thinks he’s just playing a game.

Lawnmower Man (1992)………A trip into virtual reality. Angelo has developed a virtual reality system, which truly immerses the user into the world of computer make-believe. The lawnmower man, Jobe, who is retarded, is put ‘into’ the system to find out if his intelligence can be improved. It can, but not without some serious side-effects.

2001 (1968) – A Space Odyssey ………When the world is ruled by apes, one particular group discovers a mysterious rectangular monolith near their home, which imparts upon them the knowledge of tool use, and enables them to evolve into men. In the year 2001, a similar monolith is discovered on the moon, and is determined to have come from an area near Jupiter. Astronaut David Bowman, along with four companions, sets off for Jupiter on a spaceship controlled by HAL 9000, a revolutionary computer system that is every bit mankind’s equal, and perhaps his superior. When HAL endangers the crew’s lives for the sake of the mission, Bowman will have to first overcome the computer, then travel to the birthplace of the monolith, where whatever alien intelligence controls them decides that humanity is ready to take the next evolutionary step…

Tron (1982)…….Hacker/arcade owner Kevin Flynn is desperate to prove that the hottest videogames from ENCOM were stolen from him by a former co-worker, who is now a senior executive there. Flynn’s efforts, however, are made fruitless by ENCOM’s “Big Brother,” the megalomaniacal Master Control Program. One night, the MCP catches Flynn in an attempted hack and pulls him into the virtual world. Flynn finds that the MCP is making life in the virtual world just as, if not more, miserable as in the real world. Flynn’s only hope is to find TRON, a heroic independent system security program, and help him destroy the MCP to bring order to both worlds.

Ghost in the Machine (1993) – Karl, a technician in a computer shop, is also the “Address Book Killer,” who obtains the names of his victims from stolen address books. Terry and her son Josh come into the store to price software, and a salesman uses Terry’s address book to demonstrate a hand-held scanner. Karl obtains the file, and while driving to Terry’s house that night in a heavy rainstorm, his car runs off the road and lands upside down in a cemetery. While Karl is undergoing a CAT scan at the hospital, a surge of lightning courses through the building, and Karl’s soul is transformed into electrical energy. Karl uses the electrical grid and computer networks to continue his killing spree.

Oh sit that noise scared the living hell? out of me O_O

  • Andulamb says:

When I? would play this, I would actually jump a little when a monster “suddenly” appeared before me. It looks terrible now, but back then it was the best we had.

  • Rxdvd says:

    lol? “stat’s”

  • Petrhrabal says:

    wow! that? is superrealistic picture!

  • centralscrutinizer66 says:

I used to love the game that I think came before this called Wizards, I don’t think it was as involved as this one was. Early games were written in BASIC and when you hit the reset button you could read the program and find the answers to the riddles. Great old-old school gaming to be sure.?

  • sneasalmaster says:

@fulaingt I wanna go back to 1979 and show them? a modern rpg like oblivion lol

  • TyltyI says:

Every old game looks so fascinating. It’s impressive to see the effort they’ve put in them. They look simple anche cheesy now, but back then they were innovative and funny. Now they have powerful hardware and innovative controllers, but somehow they are missing the point of squeezing the fun out of a game without giving pointless achievements and easy online matches. No point in making a solid game if you end up playing online with other people. What? about the good old single player challenge?:)

  • iwpoe says:

So that’s? like a frame rate of… one?

  • KillerSalmon says:

It’s actually not that bad once you get into it and look past the poor graphics, etc. It’s pretty harsh compared to modern games. You can starve to death pretty quickly. It’s not as good as Dungeons as Daggorath but it’s still okay.

The reason it’s slow is because it was programmed almost completely in Applesoft BASIC. Richard Garriott even kept the BASIC 3D routines in Ultima? I (the original Ultima I, not the re-release).

    @SuperiMac2
Wait, you have an honest-to-god Apple I?? Damn! Lucky guy.

  • piromaniac9999 says:

ultima 1 acording to wikipedia:, September 2, 1980 date of release.
Akalabeth: World of Doom:1979 somewhere? says circa doesn’t have a date.

  • LordKarnov42 says:

Might want to check out which? game came out first. [Akalabeth wins by two years. But loses by having a terrible gameplay engine]

  • mikeusat says:

Looks like a pretty blatant Wizardry? rippoff.

  • LordKarnov42 says:

    @SuperiMac2 Nope,? head to eBay.

  • baneskrbic says:

    Nice? frame rate.
    -.-

  • OmegaFrank says:

of course, snes is the best? console ever!!! =p

  • Jonhny2 says:

    Those are really simple graphics!
They make the graphics? on the Super Nintendo look AWESOME.

  • yooperd says:

Great game, still have it. Could never understand why the guy could never? make a move without eating. ha

  • DecoySephiroth says:

    “WELCOME, FOOLISH MORTAL”
I? was afraid of this XD

  • YariMatthews says:

Hey, give it a break, it’s pretty much? the first real RPG

  • LordKarnov42 says:

Haha, I was -5. My parents weren’t? even old enough.

  • Bastiest says:

Hmm… Intresting in a way. It’s just awfully slow paced and world map doesn’t seem to make much sense.

Though back in the days gamers had more time and patience in their hands plus you just couldn’t download a new game everytime you got bored to old one so I suppose this was a good waste of time when you? weren’t getting drunk or having unprotected sex with your nerdy girlfriend… Assuming that you were old enough… >_>

  • LordKarnov42 says:

Someone? has to play them. Oh, and, hey, this is the only crappy one on here!

  • SomethingGodAwful says:

So Karnov.. what’s the deal with you and your fascination with? old crappy games no one has ever heard of?

  • LordKarnov42 says:

    Only? goddamn slightly.
