The first startup of my 4 year long Mazda RX-7 project. Running a 6 port engine with aux bridgeports, large exhaust ports, stock TII turbocharger (for now), Microtech LT8s, custom intake and other goodies.
A report from our local news talking about some new legislation that will target street racers. Not very funny in itself, except when they bring out a local Cavalier owner as an example of someone who owns a "souped up" car. Almost too funny.
Recently I found an old tape with a recorded episode of "Car and Driver Television". The subject of the "Classic Car and Driver" segment was the 1st gen Mazda RX-7. It got a favourable review and was liked by all, though some of the information presented is a bit inaccurate.
Starting, revving and shutting down my aux bridge high compression 6 port turbo RX-7 looking into the mouth of the GT4088R ball bearing turbo. Notice the easy spool and count how many seconds it takes the turbo to stop spinning after the car is shut down. Talk about turbo response! 10 PSI by 3000 RPM at less then 70% throttle.
Joe of RPM Motorsports starting their half bridge turbo 13B-RE race car. The car is running a Haltech EMS, TO4R w/ P-trim 0.96 hotside turbo, half bridgeport 13B-RE and a bunch of other stuff. Filmed at their grand re-opening.
Behind RPM Motorsports' half-bridge 13B-RE race car listening to the exhaust and turbo. The car runs a 13B-RE half bridge with TO4R w/ P-trim 0.96 hotside. From the rear of the car you can hear the turbo wind up as the engine is held around 5000 RPM. Filmed at their grand re-opening.
Motorweek's segment covering the 40th anniversary of the Mazda rotary engine. Includes coverage of many RX vehicles (R100, RX-2, RX-3, RX-4 Cosmo, RX-7, RX-8, REPU) as well as the Mazda Sportscar Club Of Washington, vintage Mazda commercials and rotary test footage.
Classicauto (Joe)'s half bridge S4 TII starting and idling at Meeting Of The Mazdas after some basic tuning. The engine is an S5 13BT with a half bridge, running a TO4S.
Jay Leno's 1970 Cosmo was featured in an episode of Meguiar's Car Crazy which focused on collectible Japanese cars. The car is restored and upgraded with the larger 12A engine. They claim it makes 220HP which is entirely unrealistic for a stock/street port but otherwise it's a neat setup.
Manually cranking a freshly built 12A peripheral port engine. The engine is built with 3 window bearings, is doweled and has a shimmed oil pressure regulator. Ultimately it will run EFI and be turbocharged. Plugs are installed (listen to those pops!)
Joe of RPM Motorsports showing off his half bridge Mazda 616 4 door at a meet. The car is running a 13B half bridge, TII transmission and Holley carburetor.
Alan Balinsky's full race S5 FC idles in the pits at Toronto Motorsports Park while the tires are checked and the car is prepared for lapping. The car is a full race chassis running a 13B NA peripheral port engine with RX-8 internals and a 51 Weber IDA carb.
Walk around the engine bay of a running FD RX-7 with a 20B engine and large single turbo from Rotary Revolution 2005. This is RotorSports Racing's car.
RPM Motorsports' 13B-RE half bridge race car revving with camera in the engine bay. Nice turbo spool and compressor surge. Turbo is a TO4R w/ P-trim 0.96 hotside.
This is a time lapse assembly of a Megasquirt I ECU with PCB V. 3 from the DIY Auto Tune kit. It's been time lapsed to approximately 30 seconds, during which the entire board is assembled, tested and stimulated. In reality this process takes about 8 hours start to finish.
Alan Balinsky's full race S5 FC idles in the pits at Toronto Motorsports Park preparing for some lapping. The car is a full race chassis running a 13B NA peripheral port engine with RX-8 internals and a 51 Weber IDA carb. Quiet at idle, but ear bleeding loud under any throttle.
