This is the second of two Kate Smith shows that the Grand Ole Opry gang appeared on in the spring of 1952. Just about seven months later, Hank was gone.
In a touching scene backstage, Hank Snow, "The Singing Ranger", has a chat with young Hank Williams Jr. With the help of Bill Anderson, the country stars get to watch a "home movie" of Hank performing... really a very good copy of his Kate Smith Evening Hour TV performance in 1952. I would bet this is when Hank Jr. got the idea for the "tear in my beer" video.
Together with Buddy Emmons, Dobro-player Shot Jackson revolutionized the country music world with their development of the "Sho-Bud" Pedal Steel Guitar. Later, even while performing on the Grand Ole Opry and touring with Roy Acuff, Jackson established a guitar store on Broadway in downtown Nashville.
(1958) Hank tries out a "new" tune on a Southern Californian crowd. In reality, "I'm Movin On" was the top country song of 1950 and to this day holds the country music record for the number of consecutive weeks at number one on the country charts.
Ricky provides the soulful baritone... James Burton kicks-in the twangin' telecaster solo.
